When I was younger, if you had asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up I would have responded 'Kindergarten Teacher'. But when I started band in the 5th grade and had an excellent teacher and another excellent teacher in high school band, I changed my mind to wanting to be a band teacher. Music had always been very important to my family. They were very supportive in my decision to become a music educator. It wasn't until I went to college that I had changed from wanting to be just a band teacher to being an elementary music and vocal teacher. I always tell my students "You can't be the star quarterback or point guard when you're old and grey. But you will still have your musical talents to share with the world."
