I tell my seniors every spring that they have to find something
to do in their lives that makes them want to get up in the morning. If
you do not want to get up and go to work in the morning, no amount of
money or prestige will make your life enjoyable. That is what teaching
does for me. It makes me want to get up in the morning and go to work. I
like to hear my students say hi Mr. Scott. (I even like hearing the 30
to 40 year old former students say hi Mr. Scott, because it reminds me
that once I was part of their lives everyday) I like being a part of my
students lives everyday, in school at the game at the store on the
street; they never stop being my kids.
The day I can't get out of bed and be excited about seeing my
students will be the day I need to retire. I am glad to say that day has
not arrived yet. I know the reason that day has not arrived is because
the students keep me young and looking at life in a positive way. I have
been blessed to get to do something I enjoy and love every day of my
life and that is what I wish for all of my students. |
