Teaching is my passion. I can remember as a child sitting my doll in a
chair who became my pupil and playing school. I also was blessed with
having some tremendous teachers who were enthusiastic and excited about
their responsibilities working with students, and education was a top
priority with my parents. I'm sure these factors had a tremendous
influence on me when I trucked off to college to become a teacher.
Teaching and working with children is challenging and hard work, but the
joys, rewards, and excitement of stimulating a young mind is
immeasurable. What a thrilling and rewarding experience to observe their
growth! One could compare it to the joy and thrill of observing a rose
bud slowly and gracefully expanding its territory and the transformation
is a beautiful and unique work of art. Knowing that you were
instrumental in that student's transformation is a joy that lacks words
to describe it. The simple notes, crude drawings, sweet hugs, letter of
thanks and appreciation ten years later, their humor, honesty,
enthusiasm
and jest for life, their dreams and ambitions, and my reflections at the
end of the day is what really makes me realize that what I do with and
for my students does matter and is extremely important. THERE ISN'T A
BETTER JOB, ANYWHERE.
With the vast accumulation of knowledge that presents itself today,
being a teacher has fostered my ability to personally learn and grow.
Embracing learning and encouraging students to learn is one of the
vehicles that enables me to help students make a difference in their
lives. They in return have made a tremendous difference and a huge
contribution in my life.
If I had to do it all over again, would I be a teacher? The answer to
that question would be a resounding, "Yes!" When my journey is
completed, I do not want my life to be measured by the number of breaths
that I took, but by the rewards I experienced in my classroom with my
students and in my life that caused such euphoria that it took my breath
away! |
